Description

Between 1990 and 2019, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have increased in Canada by more than 20%. At 25% of total national emissions, the transportation sector is the second largest source. Various government policies such as the introduction of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes were introduced to promote smart mobility such as carpooling and thus reduce emissions and congestion. However, it is estimated that between 20 to 50% of vehicles typically using the HOV lanes are gas-powered, single occupant vehicles deliberately cheating the system. This is not only unfair to honest citizens but also greatly reduces the potential GHG reduction the policy intended to drive. Envision AI will present the latest performance results of its computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) based road-side unit that is capable of automatically determining vehicle occupancy count and provide a number of statistical traffic information in an automated and privacy preserving fashion, thus paving the way to a fairer, smarter and greener future. In addition, Invision will showcase how it making our cities and road safer by using computer vision and AI to detect hazards in various environments, and how these detections can be used to optimize road and urban planning with safety in mind.
